Novel Theme: Talk of the Town

Talk of the Town guides students through four lively stories where something unusual is happening, and everyone seems to know about it. Whispers spread, questions pile up, and entire communities find themselves caught up in problems they can’t ignore. As excitement builds, young heroes step forward to listen closely, think carefully, and help everyone move forward.

Across these novels, students encounter communities facing very different challenges: a missed opportunity that has left everyone stuck, a mystery no one has been able to solve, the pressure of shaping public opinion when the stakes couldn’t be higher, and weather so overwhelming it threatens pretty much everything. In each story, progress depends on communication, courage, and the willingness to pitch in even when it feels easier to sit out.

Hearth & Story 3rd Grade Writing
Hearth & Story 3rd Grade Writing helps students build up their sentence-writing skills and craft powerful paragraphs with all the necessary parts. With a warm, encouraging tone and step-by-step guidance, this course gives kids the tools they need to express themselves clearly and creatively, all while having fun.

Poetry in Tune

Poetry in Tune pairs seventeen carefully chosen, kid-friendly poems with thoughtfully selected songs from a variety of musical genres. Students explore how words and music can work together to create meaning. This course encourages children and the adults learning alongside them to slow down, listen closely, and notice how sound, mood, and imagery shape what we feel and understand.

Breakfast Serial

Breakfast Serial helps homeschool students learn more about the series they love, one book at a time. This flexible guide is designed for nearly any novel series. Whether your child is devouring Warriors, Beast Quest, Percy Jackson, or another favorite, Breakfast Serial helps them build strong reading habits and talk about books in smart, joyful ways.

The Stories of Asbjørnsen & Moe

Hearth & Story’s 3rd grade short story collection, The Stories of Asbjørnsen and Moe, introduces students to the rich storytelling tradition of Norway through a carefully chosen set of humorous, clever, and surprising folktales. Gathered in the 1800s by Peter Christen Asbjørnsen and Jørgen Moe, these stories capture the rugged landscape, quick wit, and fairytale magic of a culture shaped by mountains, fjords, and long winters.

3rd Grade Brain Food: Uphill Through the Snow Both Ways

Hearth & Story Third Grade Brain Food uses nostalgia as a window into history, while helping kids grow as readers, speakers, and storytellers. Through creative projects, they’ll learn to explain ideas clearly, listen closely, and make connections between the past and the present.

3rd Grade Grammar for Writers

Hearth & Story 3rd Grade Grammar for Writers is designed to make learning about language fun, practical, and low stress. Students will learn about parts of speech, sentence types, punctuation, and capitalization in a fun and friendly way.

3rd Grade Spelling

Students work with high-frequency words that are often spelled incorrectly, explore simple prefixes, suffixes, and roots, and learn to recognize helpful patterns like -tion or -ed/-ing endings.
