Examine “The Power We Hold”
Hearth & Story’s Level 7–8 thematic core invites seventh and eighth grade students to explore the many forms of power that shape our world—from personal abilities to social influence and the power of storytelling itself. Through this series, students will consider the complex dynamics of power: how it is gained, challenged, and wielded for both good and ill.
Each story in this series follows characters navigating power in unique ways—whether by discovering unexpected abilities and using them to protect others, grappling with the tension between leadership and oppression, or recognizing the profound influence of language and storytelling. The thematic core encourages students to examine how power can be used to unite or divide, to inspire or control, and how it evolves in different contexts over time.
“The Power We Hold” challenges students to reflect on the forces that shape their own lives and communities, encouraging them to consider how they can harness their unique strengths, voices, and influence to bring about meaningful change.

In addition to guided lessons, this course includes a few poetry writing activities, encouraging students to experiment with their own poetic voice.Note: This course is designed to be used with the same Hearth & Story Literary Terms Flashcard set included in the fifth and sixth grade poetry course. The printable flashcards are included in this bundle for newcomers. If you already have a set from fifth or sixth grade, you will not need to print them again.
On the Wilde Side
