What Will Be Included in Hearth & Story Complete 3rd Grade?

Hearth & Story Complete 3rd Grade is designed as a full-year language arts program for students who are already reading at an elementary level and are ready to grow as readers, writers, and thinkers.

Third Grade Theme

Talk of the Town invites students into four lively stories where something unusual is happening, and everyone seems to know about it. Whispers spread, questions pile up, and entire communities find themselves caught up in mysteries they can’t ignore. As excitement builds, young heroes step forward to listen closely, think carefully, and help everyone move forward.

Across these novels, students encounter communities facing very different challenges: a missed opportunity that has left everyone stuck, a mystery no one has been able to solve, the pressure of shaping public opinion when the stakes couldn’t be higher, and weather so overwhelming it threatens pretty much everything. In each story, progress depends on communication, courage, and the willingness to pitch in even when it feels easier to sit out.

Talk of the Town explores how rumors, stories, and shared worries can either hold a community back or bring it together. As students follow characters who pay attention, ask questions, and come up with clever plans, they are encouraged to consider their own role in the “towns” they belong to, and how thoughtful words and actions can help turn uncertainty into hope.

Release Timeline

Hearth & Story is a small, family-run business, and we are also a medical family dealing with some unpredictable challenges.

Because of that, we do not work on a fixed schedule, we cannot promise firm release dates, and our time available to work on Hearth & Story can change suddenly due to medical issues.

This isn’t something we take lightly. We know families like to plan their homeschool years carefully, and we respect that. But we also choose to be honest rather than overpromise and underdeliver due to unforeseen emergencies.

Coupon Codes

Whenever we release a new complete grade level, we offer personal coupon codes to customers who purchased one or more course components, up to the total amount of the complete level. For example, if you purchased Brain Food for $6 and Third Grade Writing for $10, you could request a coupon code for $16 off Complete Third Grade. When Complete Third Grade is released, we will send an email with a short Google Form to fill out so you can request your personal coupon code.

A Note About Phonics

By the start of third grade, many students have finished studying basic phonics and are reading short chapter books (for example, The Magic Treehouse series), while some are still working on fundamental phonics skills. Every student’s path is different, and that’s OK.

One thing to know is that Hearth & Story Complete 3rd Grade does not teach basic phonics. This Hearth & Story level is meant for students who have learned how to sound out words independently. The course works on foundational reading standards and builds comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, and critical thinking. It will work best for students who can decode unfamiliar words, can read at a 2^nd-3^rd grade level or higher, and are moving out of the “learning to read” phase and more toward “reading to learn.”

If your child is still actively learning phonics, you will need a separate phonics program alongside Hearth & Story Complete 3rd Grade.
