Hearth & Story Complete Second Grade FAQs

Thank you to everyone who has asked about our second grade homeschool English language arts curriculum! Here are answers to some of the questions we receive most often.

When will Complete Second Grade be released?

We are actively working on second grade, but we are not able to provide a launch date or even a rough estimate. Hearth & Story is a small, family-run company led by a medical mom. That means we do not have much control over our work schedule. When life goes (relatively) smoothly, it usually takes us about 9–12 months to create a complete grade level. When our family enters crisis mode, we have to set our Hearth & Story writing aside for as long as necessary.

Rather than holding everything up until the full grade level is complete, we will release each second grade component as soon as it is ready. We are not able to respond individually to messages asking when particular components will be released. Please check back here for updates and sign up for our mailing list so you don’t miss any announcements.

Will there be a coupon code for Complete Second Grade?

Yes! Whenever we launch a new complete grade level, we provide a form where families can request a coupon code for the amount they have already spent on individual components from that grade level.

For example, if you purchased two $5 second grade novel studies before Complete Second Grade launches, you would receive a $10 coupon code to use toward the complete grade level.

If possible, please save your order numbers for any second grade components you purchase. We process each family’s coupon individually, and having your order numbers makes the process much faster!

What is the second grade theme?

The theme for second grade is “Point Me Home.” Point Me Home leads young readers through a series of stories where both humans and animals (but mostly animals) are searching for a place to belong, a community to return to, or a home they have yet to discover. Some set out on purpose and others stumble toward belonging without quite knowing that's what they were looking for.

Across these novels, the characters follow completely different journeys, but what stays the same is the wish for home at the center of each story. Point Me Home helps students think about what makes a place feel safe, who helps us find our way there, and what we're willing to do for the ones who haven't made it home yet.
